The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 design has been revealed by Ice Universe, a well-known tipster. That is a very reliable source, which gives this design some credibility.
The Galaxy Fold 2 design looks weird, mainly because of the display camera hole placement
The design itself is… well… very weird. We say that mainly because of the location of the display camera hole. The display camera hole is not centered, at all, it’s moved to the right, but not to the top-right corner.
It’s in-between the middle and the top-right corner. That looks very weird, as you can see, but there is some logic behind it. It is basically it the same place as on the original Galaxy Fold, but the design has changed.
The original Galaxy Fold included a huge notch in the top-right corner, though its dual cameras were in the same place as this sensor on the Galaxy Fold 2.
Now, when you think about it, Samsung basically cannot offer a centered display camera hole here. Why? Well, the phone folds right down the middle, and you can’t really fold a camera sensor, can you.
Placing the camera in the top-left corner of the phone would put it right behind the outer camera. Putting it on the right would position it directly behind the main array. So, doing this was the only option for Samsung, when it comes to display camera holes.
Samsung didn’t have a choice, this was the best call
I mean, there were other options, but none of them would look good. A display camera hole is the better solution than a huge notch, that’s for sure. Samsung probably considered including that hole in the top-left or right corners, but… many would agree this is the better choice.
Now, the Galaxy Fold 2 design may not look as you expected, but when you consider everything that was said, it’s a good call by the company.
The device will offer rather thin bezels, at least when it comes to its inner display. We still do not know what will the outer part of the device look like.
The Galaxy Fold 2 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865+, if rumors are to be believed. The device will be made out of metal and glass, and feature several cameras on the outside.
UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) will also be a part of the package, same as on the Galaxy Z Flip. The phone is also expected to include a 120Hz panel, and it will arrive in August.
The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to launch alongside four other Samsung flagships. Those devices are the Galaxy Note 20, Note 20+, Note 20 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. We still do not know when exactly will the launch event take place, though.
