Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Fold 2 next month. Ahead of the impending launch, the second generation Galaxy Fold has passed through the 3C certification process in China, bearing the model number SM-F9160. The certification has revealed the device’s charger specifications.

According to the attached documents, the upcoming foldable smartphone from Samsung will bundle an EP-TA800 charger. The charger has a maximum power output rating of 9V and 2.27A or 11V and 2.25A.

In simpler terms, the Galaxy Fold 2 will come with a 25W charger. That’s a significant upgrade from the 15W charger that comes with the original Galaxy Fold.

To recall, this is the same 25W charger that Samsung bundles with the Galaxy S20 and Note 10 flagships. The Galaxy Note 20 series is also likely to bundle this very charger, as revealed by the device’s 3C certification back in May.

The recent 3C certification for the Galaxy Fold 2 also confirms 5G support. Reports are that the smartphone will come in a 5G variant only, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ SoC.

Galaxy Fold 2 gets a 25W charger, 4,365mAh battery

This is the second time the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 has appeared on the 3C certification website. The previous listing was for the device’s battery. Much like the original Fold, the second generation Fold will also pack two separate batteries. There’s a 2,275mAh main battery and a 2,090mAh secondary unit, totaling to a combined capacity of 4,365mAh.

By comparison, the original Galaxy Fold packed 2,135mAh and 2,245mAh batteries for a combined capacity of 4,380mAh. So its successor is coming with pretty much the same amount of battery juice.

And, in all likelihood, it should offer equally good battery endurance as well, if not better. The Galaxy Fold has many issues, but poor battery life is not one of them.

The Galaxy Fold 2 could feature a bigger secondary display. However, its Snapdragon 865+ chipset should be more power-efficient as compared to the Snapdragon 855 in the original Fold.

Additionally, it could be using LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) backplane technology for its display. This technology is said to improve battery life by up to 20 percent. Samsung is likely to employ the technology, which enables variable refresh rate capabilities, on the Galaxy Note 20 as well.

Other rumored Galaxy Fold 2 specs include a 7.7-inch foldable punch-hole display with a 120Hz refresh rate and UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) protection and a triple rear-camera setup consisting of a 108-megapixel primary camera. The foldable smartphone is likely to come in 256GB and 512GB storage variants. Android 10 with One UI 2.5, NFC, and wireless and reverse wireless charging are also part of the package.

The Galaxy Fold 2 may launch alongside the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G on August 5.
