Samsung announced a host of devices at the Galaxy Unpacked online event earlier this month. The Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S7, Tab S7+, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 were all announced during the mega event.
Now, Netflix has updated its HD and HDR10 support list to add the new Samsung flagships. The streaming giant usually updates the list in the weeks following major device launches. And it has just done that.
Of course, not every Android phone can play content from Netflix in HD and HDR10. Instead, the company certifies individual devices for its app. Only a handful of flagship phones and tablets make it to Netflix’s HDR10 compatibility list, while some higher-end mid-rangers may earn the HD compatibility certificate from the company.
As you can find on Netflix’s official support website, the company has added five new Samsung devices and a couple of TCL phones to the HDR10 list. Those include:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 20
- Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
- TCL 10 5G
- TCL 10 Plus
As for the HD support list, Netflix has added 15 new compatible devices to the list. Along with the aforementioned seven HDR10 compatible devices, the list gains various new Samsung devices as well. Below are the additional eight devices:
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A7
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7
- Samsung Galaxy A21s
- Samsung Galaxy A31
- Samsung Galaxy A41
- Samsung Galaxy A51 5G
- Samsung Galaxy A71 5G
- Samsung Galaxy M31s
Galaxy Tab S7 misses out on Netflix HDR10 support
Notably, the standard Galaxy Tab S7 is missing from Netflix’s HDR10 support list. The affordable Samsung tablet makes a number of compromises as compared to its pricier model, including an LCD panel over an AMOLED one. It also gets a smaller 11-inch, 1600 x 2560 resolution screen while the Tab S7 features a 12.4-inch panel of 1752 x 2800 pixels resolution.
Both tablets feature 120Hz refresh rate screens with Samsung also promising HDR10+ dynamic range. However, only the Galaxy Tab S7+ manages to make it to Netflix’s HDR10 support list. The standard Tab S7 model will only play Netflix content in HD resolution.
Other notable differences between Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ include a side-mounted physical fingerprint scanner on the former while the latter gets an under-display fingerprint scanner. Additionally, the smaller model also gets a smaller battery pack of 7,040 mAh capacity. The larger model packs a 10,090mAh battery, although both support 45W fast charging.
