A new promotional video for the upcoming Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones has effectively leaked the devices in full. That’s according to widespread reports following the video being shared to YouTube by Sparrows News.

The new headphones, expected to launch this month, have been making the rounds for quite some time already. In fact, Best Buy, Dell, and Walmart all published the gadget to their sales sites already, before later deleting the listings. And they appeared at the FCC as early as December of last year. But now, the main selling points, details, and images of the device have been revealed. So there may not be much left to reveal at the launch at all.

What Sony WH-1000XM4 details are revealed by the leaked promo?

Most of the details revealed in the video spot for the new Sony WH-1000XM4 aren’t going to be new. But at least some of the features, thanks to a new high-performance Bluetooth audio SoC, will be improved.

The battery life is still rated at 30-hours per charge and comes with fast-charging, for example. But built-in dual noise sensor technology, voice assistant support for AI such as Assistant or Alexa, should be improved. As should the sound pumped out by the 40mm HD hybrid drivers with adaptive sound control, noise-canceling, and 360 Reality Audio capabilities.

Touch controls will be making a return here too.

As to entirely new features in this apparently iterative device, users will have at least three. A fourth feature, listed by the source on the video commentary, is “multipoint” connectivity. That will allow up to two devices to be connected to the headphones and toggled with a single button press, the source says.

Based on the promotional video, Sony will also give users on-ear detection to turn on or off the headphones. Specifically, when users put them on or take them off. There will also be a “speak-to-chat” functionality. Presumably, that lets users send out messages with just their voice and receive them too.

Finally, the headphones will save settings for specific, registered locations. That means users can set noise-cancellation and ambient audio, among other settings, to set automatically based on where the wearable is being used.

When will these headphones arrive?

The final detail revealed in the promo video, if accurate, is the available color configurations. The promo shows the newly-leaked Sony WH-1000XM4 available in either a semi-glossy white or black configuration.

There’s no information about pricing or availability to be found in the promotional spot but August 6 seems to be the most likely date. Based on media shared by Sony on Twitter, that will be at 11:00 EDT (8:00 PST) specifically. Sony tagged the announcement event with the hashtag, “#ListenWithSony,” further cementing the event as an audio-specific event.

The company also placed a placeholder titled “Sony Announcement for Music Lovers 2020” for the event on its YouTube channel.
