Galaxy S20 FE Certified With Not-So-Fast Charging Speeds

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) has popped up on yet another certification site, revealing some details. Chinese telecom authority CCC recently certified an unannounced Samsung phone with model number SM-G7810. This is said to be the 5G variant of the upcoming affordable Galaxy flagship.

The listing confirms 5G support in this particular model, which is likely the Chinese variant of the Galaxy S20 FE. In addition, it also revealed some information about the device’s charging speeds and it’s disappointing.

The device will come with Samsung’s rather old EP-TA200 charger and it offers only 15W (9V, 1.67A) fast charging and 10W (5V, 2A) standard charging speeds. That’s disappointingly slower than the 45W fast charging speed the company offered with the Galaxy S10 Lite, the Galaxy S20 FE’s predecessor.

Samsung‘s Galaxy S20 and S20+ charge at up to 25W speed, while the S20 Ultra comes with 45W fast charging support. The recently launched Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra, meanwhile, both support only up to 25W fast wired charging.

The Galaxy S20 FE was also expected to offer at least 25W fast charging but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Just so as you know, Samsung bundles the EP-TA200 15W charger with its lower-cost mid-range smartphones.

That said, charging speeds revealed by regulatory certifications aren’t always indicative of the final product. Samsung’s own Galaxy Tab S7 was also certified to bundle the EP-TA200 15W charger by China’s CCC. However, the flagship Android tablet launched with 45W fast charging support.

Hopefully, the same will be the case with the Galaxy S20 FE as well. If not the rumored 45W speed, we’re expecting the device to offer at least 25W fast wired charging. It’ll be saddening to see a Galaxy S phone coming with 15W wired charging in 2020.

Galaxy S20 FE charging speeds disappoint, other specs don’t

Apart from charging speeds, the Galaxy S20 FE’s rumored specs don’t disappoint much. We are looking at an affordable Samsung phone with a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED punch-hole display. It’s a Full HD+ resolution display with HDR10+ and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The device will come with 5G support, powered by the Exynos 990 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, depending on the market. It’ll feature a 12+12+8-megapixel rear camera setup with up to 3x optical zoom and a 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

An in-display fingerprint sensor, IP68 water resistance rating, and a 4,500mAh battery are some other rumored specs. The device will likely come with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

A report last month suggested the Galaxy S20 FE to be a quite expensive phone. We’ll have to wait for Samsung to confirm the price details. Given the sheer volume of leaks and certification listings in recent weeks, an official announcement shouldn’t be too far now.
