Samsung began rolling out the September 2020 Android security patch to the Galaxy S20 series phones a couple of weeks back. Initially released in a select few regions, the rollout expanded to all major markets around the world earlier this week. While some units may have yet to receive the update, the company has started pushing a second September update to this year’s Galaxy S flagships.

The first update only elevated the devices’ security patch level to September 1, 2020, without adding any new features. Now, the latest update brings some improvements to the camera performance as well. However, the changelog doesn’t detail what camera improvements the update brings.

The devices received the One UI 2.5 update last month, introducing several new camera features. Those include enhanced Pro video mode and the ability to change Single Take duration. Samsung is likely trying to make those new features more stable with this update.

The last feature update for the Galaxy S20 trio also added wireless DeX and the possibility to use Android 10 navigation gestures in third-party app launchers.

Galaxy S20 receives a new software update

Samsung has begun work on Android 11-based One UI 3 for the Galaxy S20 trio. The pre-beta version of the latest iteration of the company’s custom Android skin was rolled out to registered developers in South Korea and the US earlier this month.

While Samsung is still in the early stages of testing its new operating system, the company has greatly improved its software game in recent years. A stable rollout should arrive by the end of this year, at least for the flagship models. The Galaxy S20 series will likely receive One UI 3 first, followed by the Note 20 models. In the meantime, Samsung continues to push Android 10-based feature updates to these phones.

The latest software update for the Galaxy S20 series phones is currently rolling out to users in Germany. It comes with firmware versions G981BXXU4BTIB, G986BXXU4BTIB, and G988BXXU4BTIB for the Galaxy S20, S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra respectively in the European country. It has an OTA (over the air) download size of 356.34 MB for the Ultra model. The update size should weigh around 350 MB for the other two models as well.

Samsung will likely expand the rollout to more countries in the coming days and weeks. Since updates are released in batches, it may not be available for all eligible units at once. You should get a notification once the update reaches your Galaxy S20 unit. You can also manually check for updates through the Software update menu in the phone’s Settings app.
