The Sony Xperia 5 II got announced yesterday, and it was announced with Android 10. A new rumor has just surfaced, though, and it claims that the Sony Xperia 5 II will get Android 11 right after it launches.

This rumor appeared in Japan, by the way, and it hasn’t been confirmed yet. It is also worth noting that a previous rumor, that surfaced a couple of weeks back, claimed that all ‘Mark Two’ phones will get Android 13 as well.

The Sony Xperia 5 II could get Android 11 soon after launch, and have a long life cycle

So, not only will the Xperia 5 II get Android 11, but the next two major iterations of Android as well, if the info is accurate. Do note that Sony hasn’t confirmed this.

The same source also claims that the Sony Xperia 1 II will get a 120Hz refresh rate. Do note that the Xperia 1 II got announced with a 60Hz refresh rate, but with a catch.

Sony claims that this smartphone has a display that is equivalent to 90Hz panels. How? Well, Sony says that its black frame insertion tech is responsible for that. If this rumor is to be believed, the Xperia 1 II will get a true high refresh rate mode.

We don’t know how is this possible, unless the display that Sony included is actually possible of a high refresh rate, but Sony opted not to offer it. If that is the case, it’s quite odd Sony didn’t communicate that at launch.

In any case, the Sony Xperia 5 II is basically a smaller alternative to the Xperia 1 II. It comes with the vast majority of the cameras used on the Xperia 1 II, and it shares some other internals.

The Xperia 5 II is made out of metal and glass. The phone resembles its predecessor, the Xperia 5, quite a bit. It doesn’t sport a display notch, or a display hole, but it has some bezel above and below the display.

This handset is quite powerful, one of the most powerful compact phones out there

The device is quite powerful in its own right. It comes with the Snapdragon 865 SoC, along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of internal storage. It sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate.

The phone also has a rather large battery on the inside, a 4,000mAh battery pack. Having in mind its display size and refresh rate, that battery should provide enough juice.

The phone also offers 21W fast wired charging, and a side-facing fingerprint scanner. Its cameras should be quite capable, as are shooters on the Xperia 1 II.

It would be great if this Android 11 rumor ended up being true. Sony has improved when it comes to updates, and it would be great to see the company deliver the next version of Android so soon.
