Sony has jam-packed the Xperia 5 II with gaming features that will make it a formidable Android smartphone for all kinds of gaming.

Whether that be mobile gaming, cloud gaming, or gaming on PlayStation via Remote Play. In fact Sony and Activision just announced a partnership that makes the Xperia 5 II the first phone to have support for Call Of Duty: Mobile at 120Hz.

The phone’s gaming features go well beyond that, though. It’s not a gaming phone like the ROG Phone 3, but it is more than capable of being used as a gaming phone. Sony does make the best-selling game console of all time after all.

So it’s phones are usually equipped with at least some gaming-related features. With the Xperia 5 II, Sony is just upping the ante by adding a lot more of them.

Gaming on the Xperia 5 II should feel super smooth

It’s not always about supreme power. There are lots of things that can factor into a great gaming experience when in regards to the hardware.

In the case of the Xperia 5 II, things should feel super smooth. Not only does the phone come with a Blur-Free 120Hz display, it also comes with with 240Hz motion blur reduction. As well as a 240Hz touch scanning rate.

These three things should make a pretty big difference for games that are more fast-paced. If frame rates don’t matter as much in a particular game, then you may notice the benefits of these features less often.

Optimized for gaming speed and long-lasting performance

There’s still more for gamers to love here. Sony has done quite a bit to optimize the phone for gaming as much as possible.

In addition to the higher frame rate, reduced blur, and faster touch response, the phone will likely perform better for longer than some phones. The Xperia 5 II comes with a graphene structure that Sony says will help it stay cooler for longer periods of time.

If you’ve ever played high-end games on a ROG Phone II or something equivalent, then you know how hot those phones can get.

The phone also comes with a Snapdragon 865 mobile platform from Qualcomm. So when it comes to graphics and computing power, the Xperia 5 II will be more than capable of handling the most demanding mobile gaming experiences.

The 21:9 aspect ration won’t hurt either. As this is wider than most phones out there and will add to the gaming immersion. And of course the Xperia 5 II has excellent support for Sony’s DualShock 4 controller.

You may even be able to use the new DualSense coming with the PlayStation 5.

Game Enhancer for additional gaming optimization

If you want to kick things up another notch, then dive into the Game Enhancer app.

It’ll let you adjust a range of things like the screen’s refresh rate, blur reduction, touch response rate, touch tracking and more. There’s also an Expert Focus gaming mode you can enable here that Sony says is designed for Esports.

Creators and streamers have a few features they can utilize too. You can capture screenshot bursts of up to 20fps over a 30-second time period. Then you can take those or any streamed footage that you record and save and dump them into the Audio Mixer to create a customized gameplay video.

Once done you can easily share or upload those videos across social channels like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and more. Is the Sony Xperia 5 II a gaming phone? No. Is it a phone that’s insanely well-equipped for gamers? Absolutely.
