A few days ago, General Motors took the wraps off its new Hummer EV supertruck, which is powered by Android. Well, it seems like it will soon receive Google Maps Android app.
The Hummer EV supertruck is a 1,000HP powerful beast on the road. It is juiced by three electric motors and a new Ultium battery setup.
However, the attention was grabbed by its 12.3-inch driver information display and 13.4-inch infotainment screen. When these big screens are in use, these will show driver information. Including the driving mode, gyroscopic feed, suspension control, etc.
Notably, the Hummer EV supertruck has the first in-car system designed on the Unreal Engine for visuals and is powered by Android OS. The glimpses of the new system were showcased during the unveiling of the car by GMC.
And it looks more intense, has powerful graphics, and looks top-notch, compared to what we see in other cars. Moreover, the Hummer EV creative director Scott Martin in a briefing with Engadget shared some info on the device’s software system.
Martin highlighted that the Hummer EV supertruck is powered by an Intel CPU with 64GB of memory. And to bring versatility, it runs on the most popular OS, Android.
The partnership between Google and Hummer EV might bring the Google Maps app
The good thing about this involvement of Android is that the partnership with Google is expected to bring Play Store, Google Maps, and voice control to the supertruck.
However, note that there is no confirmation that the mentioned ‘Voice Control’ would be Google Assistant or not. We speculate it is powered by Android, we should see a plethora of Android app support for Hummer EV.
As far as other features of the software are concerned, there are varieties of widgets. The best thing about these widgets is that they show data in real-time and the animations are perfect.
The Hummer EV widgets include g-force articulation (friction circle), Drift gauge (with maximum values), Torque output and torque vectoring, Wheel travel, e-Locker engagement, Tire pressure, Pitch and roll angles (with maximum values), Chassis ride height, and Compass.
The truck’s front daytime running light also doubles up as a charging indicator. The front light pulses when the truck is charging. Moreover, it lights up a segment to show charging status.
The 2022 Hummer EV supertruck Edition 1 starts at $112,595 and will release in the fall of 2021. Some other models will be released through 2024 with price tags as low as $79,995.
We expect Hummer EV supertruck to take full advantage of the Android OS and the Unreal Engine to bring powerful Android apps like Google Maps.
