Huawei is expected to launch the Mate X2 foldable smartphone in the coming weeks. Now, a concept video of the Huawei Mate X2 has surfaced online. The video is published by Jermaine (a.k.a Concept Creator) on his YouTube channel. It will be the successor to the original Huawei Mate X unveiled in early 2019.
Looks like the design of the device is inspired by the foldable smartphone patents of Huawei. Unlike the previously launched Mate X and Mate Xs, the upcoming Mate X2 will be coming with an in-folding design. There is also a large cover display on the outside. As shown in the video, the device will likely sport a glass back and aluminum frame.
Huawei Mate X2 concept design showcases in-folding display
While the Galaxy Z Fold 2 came with a 4.6-inch cover display, the Mate X2 is rumored to sport a slightly smaller 4.5-inch cover display. As seen on the flagship P40 series, Huawei’s upcoming foldable will also feature dual punch-hole selfie cameras. Interestingly, there is no camera on the inside.
For capturing selfies or making video calls, users will have to live with the smaller cover display. On the rear, the Mate X2 comes with a large rectangular camera module featuring a quad-camera setup. For the first time, the Mate X2 might introduce a periscope-style telephoto camera on a foldable smartphone.
It could be the first Huawei smartphone with a 120Hz display
The power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device. Speaking of the foldable display, the device sports a larger 8.03-inch in-folding display with a resolution of 2480 x 2220 pixels. The Mate X2 could also become the first-ever Huawei smartphone to support a 120Hz high refresh rate.
If you didn’t know, the Huawei P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ smartphones launched earlier this year came with a 90Hz display. As per the previous leaks, Huawei will use CPI (colorless polyimide) instead of UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) to protect the foldable display.
The company will be sourcing foldable display panels from Samsung and China’s BOE. During the Mate X launch, the company boasted about its no gap hinge design. It remains to be seen how Huawei handles the hinge of its first-ever in-folding smartphone.
Even the new Galaxy Fold 2’s hinge leaves a small gap when folded. Last week, Huawei officially confirmed to unveil the Mate 40 series on October 22. It is being reported that the company will also launch the Mate X2 during the same event.
