Samsung is now rolling out a new update to the entire Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S10 series, sans the newly launched Galaxy S20 FE. Apart from the latest security patch update for the month of October 2020, there are no new features added with this update. Samsung generally gives the first priority to its flagship smartphones.

The Galaxy A50 is the first Samsung smartphone to get the October security patch update this time around. If you didn’t know, the Galaxy A50 was one of the best-selling Android smartphones in 2019. It received the OTA update on October 1 itself. Samsung is the only major Android OEM to compete with Google in rolling out the monthly security updates.

Galaxy S20 & Galaxy S10 series get the latest October security patch update

The latest update carries the build numbers G98xxXXS5BTIJ and G97xFXXS9DTI8 for Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S10 series respectively. The changelog doesn’t reveal any significant changes with this update. However, it will include regular bug fixes and stability improvements.

Since the OTA update is rolled out incrementally, only limited devices will get notified on day one. It might take a few days to show up on all the eligible devices. Interested users can also manually check for the latest update by going to Settings > Software update > Download.

If there is a prompt about the new update, tap on the “Install now” button to download and install it. For the carrier locked Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the update will be rolling out through the carriers. It might take a week or two for the carriers to begin rolling out the October security patch update to their Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S20 smartphones.

One UI 3.0 public beta coming soon to the Galaxy S20 series.

Last month, the company launched its developer beta program for One UI 3.0 based on Android 11. The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are the only smartphones currently eligible for the developer beta program. A few days back, Samsung has officially confirmed to soon release the public beta of One UI 3.0 for the Galaxy S20 users.

As the October security patch is now rolled out to the Galaxy S20 lineup, it might take longer than expected for the company to release the One UI 3.0 public beta update. Samsung might announce the exact date for the public beta roll out in the next couple of weeks. There will be a lot many changes with the upcoming One UI. Stay tuned!
