Verizon has started to roll out the November 2020 Android security patch to the Galaxy Note 20 5G and Note 20 Ultra 5G. The update is rolling out with software version N986USQS1BTJ8 and N981USQS1BTJ8 for the two devices respectively.
The changelog accompanying the update doesn’t mention any major changes apart from bumping the security patch level to the latest available. That said, the patch itself contains fixes for a handful of vulnerabilities that were found in the Android OS. Precisely, the November 2020 Android security patch fixes five critical vulnerabilities along with 29 high threats and 31 moderate threats.
It also contains fixes for five Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE). SVE are software vulnerabilities that are exclusive to Samsung’s Android skin, or should we say, One UI. Among the flaws patched with this update is a vulnerability that allowed FRP (Factory Reset Protection) to bypass through Secure Folder.
The latest security patch also fixes an issue that allowed unauthorized access to the contents of a locked Gallery by exploiting the S Secure app. For the uninitiated, S Secure is a Samsung-made security app for app locking and masking. It is available only in China and India though.
Samsung has already pushed the November 2020 Android security patch to a number of Galaxy smartphones. Verizon models are also now making the jump, starting with the most recent Galaxy flagships.
Additionally, the carrier is also starting to push the October 2020 Android security patch to a bunch of devices. Major Samsung smartphones that are now receiving last month’s security patch include the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G, Galaxy S9, S9+, and Galaxy Note 9. The likes of Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 10 have already received the update last month. They should be making the jump to the November patch in the coming weeks.
LG V50 ThinQ 5G is receiving a feature update on Verizon
Along with Samsung Galaxy models, Verizon is also pushing new updates to a group of devices from other OEMs. Most notably though, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G is receiving a second update with the October 2020 Android security patch. The latest update, that carries the software version V450VM20g, is a feature update that improves the call quality on the device. The changelog doesn’t mention anything else, so that’s likely about it.
As always, remember that OEMs and carriers release updates in batches and they may not reach all eligible units simultaneously. You should receive a notification when the update becomes available for your unit. You can also manually check for updates through the phone’s Settings app.
