Sony’s portfolio currently includes two 5G smartphones — the Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 II. Both smartphones come packed with flagship hardware, including the Snapdragon 865 5G mobile platform. According to the latest leak, Sony is working on a mid-range Xperia smartphone powered by the recently launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G mobile platform. While there is no confirmation, it might launch as the Xperia 10 III.

It will be the successor to the Xperia 10 II launched earlier this year. Even the Xperia 10 II came with the Snapdragon 6-series chipset. Since the Snapdragon 690 support 5G, the Xperia 10 III will become the first mid-range smartphone from Sony to offer 5G connectivity.

Moreover, the Xperia 10 III will come accompanied by a new flagship smartphone powered by the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 875 mobile platform. This could be the 2021 flagship Sony smartphone, which might debut as the Xperia 1 III. Apart from the chipsets used, there is no other information on these upcoming Xperia smartphones.

Even the Xperia 10 II was launched alongside the Xperia 1 II in February this year. As seen on its predecessor, the upcoming Xperia 10 III might also continue to sport a cinematic 21:9 OLED display. If you didn’t know, the previously launched Xperia 10 II features the Snapdragon 665 mobile platform.

Apart from 5G connectivity, the new Snapdragon 690 on the upcoming Xperia 10 III will also boost the performance. The new Kryo 560 CPU on this chipset comes packed with 2x Cortex-A77 cores and 6x Cortex-A55 cores. In terms of graphics performance, the Snapdragon 690 features the Adreno 619L GPU.

In terms of design, the upcoming Xperia 10 III might look similar to its predecessor. The triple camera setup on the Xperia 10 II features a 12-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. For selfies, it came with an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture.

In 2019, Sony also launched the Xperia 10 Plus alongside the Xperia 10. Interestingly, the company ditched the Plus moniker with the mark 2 generation. Obviously, there won’t be Xperia 10 III Plus coming in 2021. When launching next year, the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 10 III should run on the latest Android 11 out of the box.

Just like the other Xperia smartphones, both these upcoming smartphones will also be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. For the first look and other specifications, stay tuned for the leaks which might come out in the coming weeks.
