T-Mobile has announced another expansion of its Home Internet pilot service. The fixed 4G LTE-based home internet service is now available in more than 130 additional cities and towns across nine states. This expansion comes just a month after the company announced that its Home Internet pilot service has potentially reached 20 million households in parts of 450 cities and towns across the country.
The Un-carrier’s broadband service is a $50-per-month offering with taxes and fees included. The service offers unlimited data with no data caps. According to T-Mobile, its Home Internet service has achieved an average Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 42. By contrast, customers have rated their previous provider at -75 (that’s a negative 75!).
Seventy-three percent of users also report saving money with T-Mobile Home Internet. A majority of the users claim to be saving as much as $30 per month. T-Mobile also boasts features such as no annual service contracts, no hardware rental costs, and no installation fees. The equipment is also designed to be self-installed without any hassle.
Home broadband is one of the least-loved industries in America. According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), “internet service providers have the second-lowest customer satisfaction ratings out of 46 industries, beating cable and satellite TV companies by just one point.”
A Statista report shows that only 63 percent of rural households in the US have access to internet. T-Mobile further claims that more than three-quarters of rural areas in the country have no high-speed broadband service or have only one provider. “And when there’s no choice, customers suffer”. The company wants to change that by bringing its Home Internet pilot to more and more rural areas.
T-Mobile plans to launch 5G Home Internet service next year
T-Mobile has been rapidly expanding its mobile 5G coverage nationwide. The company is taking advantage of the additional spectrum capacity unlocked by the merger with Sprint to roll out its mid-band 5G networks. It is now also planning to launch 5G Home Internet commercially next year. The wireless provider hopes to cover more than 50 percent of American households with 5G broadband within six years.
The 4G LTE-based T-Mobile Home Internet pilot service is available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the company promises to continuously expand equipment inventory and local network capacity. As for the recent coverage expansion, it covers select towns and cities in Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
