Samsung has started pushing the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update to the Galaxy S20 FE. The update is currently rolling out in Russia with the firmware version G780FXXU1BTL1. It also bundles the December 2020 Android security patch.

One UI 3.0 brings tons of new features and enhancements to Samsung smartphones. Some of the notable changes include repositioned volume controls, support for chat heads, improvements to Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, and UI changes and other improvements to stock apps such as Messages, Contacts, Phone, and Calendar.

The notification shade and quick settings now have a blurred, transparent background. Samsung has also streamlined some of the menus in the Settings app. The Bixby Routines feature is also getting a new UI. Samsung Internet comes default with One UI 3.0 and you’ll notice some UI changes here as well.

While all eligible Samsung Galaxy smartphones should get these UI changes with the One UI 3.0 update. However, some of the new features may not be available for affordable, mid-range models. The Galaxy S20 FE should get most of them, though.

Samsung starts rolling out Android 11 for the Galaxy S20 FE

Over the past couple of years, Samsung has greatly improved the pace at which it rolls out major Android OS updates to its smartphones. This year, it has already rolled out the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update to the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The Android 11 update for the Galaxy S20 FE has now arrived earlier than expected.

Samsung’s official Android 11 update roadmap says the Galaxy S20 FE would get the update in January or February, depending on the market. That said, the update so far has only been released in Russia, and other markets could still be a few weeks away from getting it.

Going by the official roadmap, the Galaxy Note 20 series should get the Android 11 One UI 3.0 update next. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra phones will likely receive the goodies in the coming weeks.

As always, over the air (OTA) updates are released in batches and may not reach all eligible units simultaneously. If you own a Galaxy S20 FE and live in Russia, you should receive a notification once the update becomes available for your unit, if you haven’t already. You can also manually check for the update through the Software update menu in the Settings app. Since it is a major OS update, we suggest you connect your phone to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the update.
