For everyone interested in the new Galaxy S21 you should know it is missing a useful feature. Google’s seamless updates on Galaxy S21 is not supported. Now, this may not seem like it’s a huge deal, and in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t. New owners of Samsung’s latest device will get updates, but not supporting this just makes things less efficient.

According to Android Central back in July of 2020, it seemed like Google would make seamless updates mandatory on all Android 11 phones. However, Samsung’s new flagships do not support this feature. The feature is intended to make updates more seamless for users, and allow them to continue using their phones while the phone updates.

Treble Info and Treble Check suggest the new devices do not support seamless updates. Treble was introduced by Google as a way for making updates easier.

The seamless update feature uses A/B partitions to install updates in the background. As a result, users will be able to have the ability to update their devices while still using them. Basically, the update is installed on the partition that is not currently being used by the user. Once complete the update is installed in the background.

In addition, there is also a lower risk of data corruption thanks to the seamless update process. It seems like Google decided to change its mind on making seamless updates a mandatory inclusion.

Some users may think that the exclusion of seamless updates may not be a huge problem, and again in the larger scheme, it isn’t. However, for anyone who lives on their phone, it can definitely be a useful feature. As many users know the process of updating a device without seamless updates can be a pain.

After downloading the new update a user must reset their device. After resetting the device begins the process of installing the new update. Depending on the size of the update a user’s device can be down for a long time while updating. Again, this may not seem like a lot. But for a flagship device, you would think it would be included.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 may have all of the highest-end specs like the Snapdragon 888, 120Hz refresh rate, and amazing cameras. But Google’s seamless updates on Galaxy S21 is still not supported. Hopefully, Samsung will bring this to their future devices to save users from having to stare at the Android while the update installs.
