Samsung Galaxy S21/S21+ Ad Claims There’s Enough Storage For 8K

The Samsung Galaxy S21 flagship devices have launched recently. However, an official Samsung Galaxy S21/S21+ TV ad is grabbing eyeballs because it says there’s enough space for 8K video storage.

Notably, the TV ad is about the Galaxy S21 and S21+. We speculate that being the “Ultra” out of the pack, Galaxy S21 Ultra will get its separate ad.

The Galaxy S21/S21+ TV commercial highlights the smartphone’s camera capabilities, 8K video, battery life, and storage. But the company might be exaggerating a bit here.

Coming back to the ad for Galaxy S21 and S21+ TV ad, it seems like Samsung just wants to, in any ways grab the attention of the ad-watchers in buying the phone.

First of all, the battery life on the Galaxy S21 and S21+ isn’t out of this world. At least not on the vanilla Galaxy S21. We can spare the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but that device is out of the question here.

The TV ad also turns its attention to the storage capacity. But we all know that Samsung has done something which none expected from it.

No. We are not talking about the removal of the charger from in-box contents. This was expected from Samsung since Apple did it.

Galaxy S21/S21+ without microSD card slot won’t be sufficient for capturing 8K videos

We are talking about the removal of the microSD card slot. Although there are two versions of cloud storage options, you are left with only 128GB, which is not enough if you are regularly shooting at 8K.

The ad at one point of time says plenty of storage for “all of that”, which includes shooting 8K videos. Now doing the math, as pointed out by Android Authority, one minute of 8K video takes 600MB. This is 100MB per second.

Since the 128GB model of Galaxy S21/S21+ leaves 100GB space for actual usage, you can record for about 167 minutes or about 2.8 hours of 8K video, before you run out of space.

Yes, 2.8 hours of 8K video is a lot for a whole trip, but this is a scenario when you do not install any app and use the Galaxy S21 or S21+ exclusively for 8K video shooting. Which is not an ideal situation.

It wouldn’t be an issue if there was a microSD card slot. But now that is gone, Samsung ads’ claim of “plenty” of storage is not true. Then there is a stress on 5G technology for faster sharing.

Where in reality, most of the people owning Galaxy S21 or S21+ are not in a region where 5G has flourished, which is again an exaggeration on  Samsung’s part in the ad.
