Stadia is officially getting its next EA game with FIFA 21, announced this afternoon by EA in a press release. For FIFA fans, the announcement has good timing, following Google’s announcement yesterday that it would be shutting down the internal game studios, Stadia Games & Entertainment.
More AAA titles is exactly what Stadia needs. And FIFA 21 is no doubt going to be one of many new big-budget games headed to the cloud gaming platform this year.
EA doesn’t mention price. But players shouldn’t expect the cost of the Stadia version of FIFA 21 to be any different than the console version. Which probably means it’s going to sit at or around $20 retail if Google and EA decide to match what the game costs for the physical standard edition.
Keeping that in mind, the regular retail price for the game was $60. So Stadia players could be looking at a higher cost.
FIFA 21 will be launching on Stadia in the middle of March
This certainly won’t be EA’s first game on Stadia. In fact its most recent is Madden 21 which just released at the end of January. If FIFA is more your bag, you’ll be able to boot it up on Stadia in the middle of March.
Specifically on March 17. That means the game release is still a month and a half away. And there will surely be more games released in between now and then.
While the news of FIFA coming to Stadia isn’t exactly a mystery, neither Google or EA had announced exact release dates. EA did however announce last year that it had plans to release numerous games onto Google’s platform. In addition to Madden another title that’s available is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Will EA follow up with FIFA 22?
FIFA 21 is going to be about half a year old by the time it reaches Stadia. Which means FIFA 22 will be about six months out from the release of FIFA 21.
It isn’t unlikely that Stadia subscribers will get the upcoming game at the same time as console and PC players. Especially with EA finally getting the franchise onto Stadia in just under two months.
Stadia players also recently gained access to other new titles like Journey To The Savage Planet, Hitman 3, Phoenix Point, Tohu and others. And Madden NFL 21 was just available as a free weekend game this past weekend.
Not to mention there are now new Stadia Pro games to claim at no additional charge.
