Since September last year, Google has been reminding the Google Play Music users to move their data and move over to YouTube Music. This is done before finally taking it offline in December.

Now, the company is sending out an email to Google Play Music users to download their data, i.e. the Play Music library, and transfer it to the YouTube Music library.

Google has warned its users in the email that if they did not download their data, then it will be deleted later this month. To be specific, Play Music data will be deleted on February 24.

According to the email, this data includes any uploads, purchases, or anything related to Google Play Music. Moreover, after February 24, there will be no way to receive the lost data.

An excerpt of the email reads, “On February 24, 2021, we will delete all of your Google Play Music data. This includes your music library with any uploads, purchases and anything you’ve added from Google Play Music. After this date, there will be no way to recover it.

This is high time for all those who still haven’t downloaded their Play Music data. Well, this is an extension of the original plan. So, Play Music owners should not complain about this warning email.

As per the original plan, Google planned to give the Play Music users till December 2020 to transfer their data to YouTube Music. However, the date was pushed ahead a few weeks ahead.

Data downloaded via Takeout includes purchased/uploaded music, playlists, etc.

The email also acknowledges that even if the users have transferred their data to YouTube Music, they can still transfer their data offline via Google Takeout.

Data downloaded via Google Takeout includes radio station metadata, search/playback history, purchased/uploaded music, playlists, etc.

Notably, Google is sending out the email to everyone, including the users who have migrated to YouTube Music for good.

To recall, Google Play Music was launched back in 2011. It was a decent music streaming app mixing elements of iTunes and Spotify. You could even purchase music from the in-built store.

Then YouTube Music came along and it came with features that were very familiar if you used YouTube, which everyone literally was. YouTube gave access to almost every song that you can imagine.

The termination of Google Play Music was imminent. Besides, with the deletion of data on February 24, this service will finally breathe its last.

Better is that you transfer your Google Play Music data to YouTube Music using a helpful tool that will help you transfer your data. If you haven’t yet subscribed to YouTube Music, you can sign up for $9.99 per month.
