One of the most innovative smartphone brands that likes to keep trying new things, OPPO, has filed for an interesting camera patent. Notably, the patent shows it will not only hide the front camera but the rear camera as well.

It seems like all major smartphone brands are invested in trying to get rid of the notch or any distractions from the display. In the path of achieving bezel-less design, recently a number of camera patents have surfaced on the internet.

OEMs, like Samsung, Xiaomi, etc. are trying to get hide the cameras in such a way that a bezel-less phone can be made. OPPO has taken a step further and filed for a patent that hides both front and rear cameras.

According to LetsGoDigital, in March 2019, OPPO applied for a patent for a “Photographing module, installation drive assembly and mobile terminal.” WIPO released the documents in October 2020.

This will also get rid of the huge rear camera bump smartphones are coming with these days. Moreover, as per the patent, if OPPO implements this new camera system, then we will have a clean, no distractions in the front smartphone all around.

OPPO will use two light path deflecting mirrors for this new camera module

The patent further reveals OPPO will make use of two light paths deflecting mirrors. These two mirrors will reflect light captured in the sensors, reportedly inside the phone itself.

Moreover, using these two mirrors instead of one would allow the OPPO phone to capture photos from the side as well. Further, it could also take photos simultaneously from the front and the back. Apparently, there will be a lot of photo capturing possibilities with this new module.

OPPO camera patent also shows a flat display smartphone with a near bezel-less design. The device does not have a notch or punch-hole as the camera system hides in the pop-up system.

The rear side of the OPPO smartphone is also clean from cameras. Well, this would give OPPO more real-estate to experiment with its various gradient designs.

Talking about the pop-up camera, it consists of two cameras and two light path deflection mirrors. These camera parts are housed in a prism (triangle) shape.

Interestingly, with OPPO’s new camera system, only the mirrors move up and down. While the two cameras themselves do not move. This ensures the durability of the module.

The top of the camera module is round, making it a part of the whole smartphone design. Although this OPPO camera patent seems nice, readers should keep in mind that this is just a patent. It may or may not see the light of the day.
