Some Galaxy S21 Units Have Issues With Samsung Pay

After a couple of weeks of the pre-order period, the Samsung Galaxy S21 phones started to reach the consumers’ hands last week. And it appears some of the early adopters of the phones are facing some issues on their new Galaxy flagships.

According to reports on Samsung’s official forums, some users are not able to use Samsung Pay on their devices. The affected users also haven’t received any software updates on their phones. Samsung has already released two software updates for the Galaxy S21 series. However, the affected users haven’t received either of them as yet.

The issue appears to stem from having the incorrect CSC set up on the phones. For the uninitiated, CSC is essentially a country or region-specific customization of software that enables certain features for a phone in that particular region. If your phone has the CSC of one region and you’re setting it up in some other region, you may not receive the official over the air (OTA) updates. You may even lose some features.

This is what seemingly happened with the affected Galaxy S21 users. The affected users in the UK reportedly have their CSC set to EUX (European Union) rather than BTU. As a result, they are unable to use Samsung Pay or receive OTA updates.

Now it’s not entirely clear how these users ended up with the wrong CSC on their phones. Some suggest setting up the phone without inserting a SIM card may cause it. A few users in Italy also reportedly have the wrong CSC set up on their Galaxy S21 phones.

Samsung is already rolling out a fix for this Galaxy S21 CSC issue

Samsung has yet to acknowledge this issue with Samsung Pay and software updates on Galaxy S21 phones. However, according to a report coming from Italy, the company is already rolling out a fix for the issue in the region. A user in the UK has also reportedly received a carrier services update to set the CSC to BTU.

So it appears Samsung probably already knows about the issue and you might receive a fix for it anytime now if you haven’t already. In the meantime, you can try out the steps outlined by a user in this post in the Samsung community forum to see if correctly changes the CSC of your phone. If it doesn’t, it’s best to wait for a few days for the update with the fix to reach your unit.
