ASUS has started rolling out Android 11 to the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro smartphones, finally. The rollout did start in Taiwan, though, so it may take a while for the update to reach international units.
These two smartphones were announced back in September last year, and considering it has been over 6 months since Google released a stable version of Android 11, the ZenFone 7 users had to wait for the update quite a bit.
What’s interesting in all this, is that the ZenFone 6 actually started receiving Android 11 back in December, while the global version followed in January. That phone is from 2019, so it didn’t make much sense at that point, but there you go.
Android 11 rollout to the ASUS ZenFone 7 series begins
Needless to say, this update does bring quite a few changes to the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro. The company’s ZenUI will still look a lot like stock Android, as ASUS made that switch in the past. ZenUI became a rather compelling skin, after being a really bloated one.
As part of this update, you’ll get all the major Android 11 features that Google announced last year. ZenUI will also get a facelift, though don’t expect that many things will change in regards to the design. That’s what Android 12 will bring.
If you hit this link, you’ll be able to see some changes that ASUS listed in the changelog. Do note that you’ll need to use a translate feature in order to read it, though.
The company updated a ton of its own applications, including Contacts, Phone, File Management, Clock, Weather, Local Backup, and more.
Android 11 notification style is now here, so all the changes that you’ve seen in Android 11 phones will be included here as well. The company also adapted the menu when you hold the power key, so that you can expect your smart home controls and Google Pay.
The Quick Settings panel has been adjusted, the interface has been changed, and it now supports media controls. The Nearby Share option has been added as well.
Android 11 update for global variants will probably follow soon
We’re not sure when exactly will the rollout to global units begin, but presuming this update is now infested with bugs, you can expect that to happen really soon, as was the case with the Android 11 update for the ZenFone 6.
