If you hate scam calls then T-Mobile can help with that. As reported by PhoneArena, T-Mobile’s Scam-Shield protects 30% better against scam calls than other carriers. It seems as if robocalls have been on the rise more and more recently. Nobody likes them so it is good to see carriers protecting customers from them.

Scam calls have always been annoying but knowing that they can manipulate the area code of the numbers they use to make it worse. It becomes harder to ignore calls when they have a local area code because you may end up ignoring something important.

The name for this manipulation is number spoofing. But T-mobile is fighting number spoofing by using STIR/SHAKEN. March 25 T-Mobile announced the next Scam-Shield milestone to combat scammers from harassing T-Mobile customers.

The new milestone sees T-Mobile becoming the first and only U.S. wireless carrier to use STIR/SHAKEN with all major U.S. stateside wireless firms. The move comes three months ahead of the FCC’s June 2021 deadline that other carriers will have to adhere to.

T-Mobile’s press release says that “when a call comes in from any of the major carriers or any of several other smaller network providers to T-Mobile’s network (or vice versa), the companies will be able to authenticate it’s coming from the phone number displayed in Caller ID and has not been spoofed”.

According to the nation’s second-largest carrier, this makes Caller ID even stronger. As a result, T-Mobile customers, Sprint customers, and Metro by T-Mobile will be better protected from scams and robocalls. These customers will get a free Caller ID which makes it easier to protect every one of T-Mobile’s customers.

As T-Mobile puts it, “for the millions of businesses and people, not your contacts, if we know who’s calling, you’ll know who is calling.” That is pretty reassuring especially in this day and age of constant robocalls.

According to T-Mobile CEO, Mike Sievert, T-Mobile has protected over 80 million customers from more than 33 billion suspect calls. That is an ungodly amount of scam calls. In 2019 T-Mobile was the first to introduce number verification, and now with free Caller ID and Scam-Shield, the company aims to protect from many more.

The combination of these technologies is what makes T-Mobile’s network 30% better at finding scam calls than its rivals. This is good because the number of robocalls and scam calls on the rise. According to T-Mobile, these calls are returning to pre-pandemic levels. More than 237 million calls are being handled by T-Mobile thanks to being verified by STIR/SHAKEN.

Hopefully, other carriers will adopt STIR/SHAKEN soon. The deadline to adopt STIR/SHAKEN is around the corner. But allows scammers to harass customers easier for a few months.
