Samsung recently released an important software update for its Galaxy S21 flagships. The new update introduced a fix for the camera lag and stutter issues that many users have been reporting since last month. As always, international versions of the phones were the first to pick up the update last week. However, the Korean firm was quick to bring the new software to the US as well. It was released for carrier variants of the phones on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile networks earlier this week. Now, the same update is hitting the Galaxy S21 phones on Verizon’s network as well. It should also arrive for other carrier variants of the phones soon.

The latest update for the Galaxy S21 series on Verizon is rolling out with firmware version G99xUSQU4AUF5. All three models – the vanilla Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra – are picking up the new update. It fixes those long-reported camera issues, where switching the lenses or zooming in/out took an enormous amount of time. Samsung says it has made engine and memory optimizations for several camera features to improve stability.

Additionally, the new update introduces a new feature that enables the Galaxy S21 phones to recognize and read QR codes in photos stored in the gallery. The device uses its built-in QR code scanner, which is available in the quick settings panel, for this feature.

The Galaxy S21 phones are also getting some improvements to the Video Call Effect feature with the latest software update. Samsung has reportedly added a new manual color function to this feature. Lastly, the Korean firm promises improvements to the thermal management abilities of the phones. So your phone shouldn’t have any unusual overheating problem following the new update.

June security patch is part of the package as well

If you recall, the Galaxy S21 series was the first to receive the June 2021 Android security patch from Samsung. The new Galaxy flagships received this month’s security maintenance release in the last week of May. However, that was just the first of three June updates for the phones. Yes, Samsung released no less than three updates for the Galaxy S21 series this month, though not everyone received them.

Nonetheless, this is the most important of the trio as it fixes a major camera issue. If you are using a Galaxy S21 phone on the Verizon network, you should receive the latest update anytime now. Users on other networks can also expect to get a notification for this update in the coming days. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app, under the Software update menu.
