Today at Mobile World Congress, Samsung virtually debuted its new One UI Watch experience for the first time. This is the experience that Google teased a bit during Google I/O last month. It’s the new platform that Samsung and Google co-created, and today we get our first look at it.

One of the main features of the One UI Watch experience is that it will provide users with a consistent experience across their Galaxy devices. So the Settings app will look and be laid out the same on your Galaxy S21 and your smartwatch.

You’ll see more of the One UI Watch experience later this summer

Later this summer, Samsung says that we will see the upcoming Galaxy Watch at an Unpacked event. Though Samsung has not yet said when that will be. Based on the past, it’ll likely be in the first half of August. Where we’d expect Samsung to release a ton of new products (and we do mean a ton).

This upcoming Galaxy Watch – which Samsung did not confirm the name – is going to be the first smartwatch to feature this new unified platform that it co-created with Google. Along with One UI Watch.

Samsung is also creating a much easier to use watch face design tool. So we should see a lot more watch faces available for Galaxy Watches in the future. And it will allow Android developers to release new cool, and fun watch faces.

What’s interesting is that this new platform won’t be called Wear OS. And we will get an official name later on – probably at Unpacked. We’ll have to wait and see if this platform will be available on other smartwatches from other brands. Or if Google will maintain Wear OS and this new co-created platform with Samsung.

Samsung also did not confirm whether this update will come to the existing Galaxy Watches, or if it will only be on the new Galaxy Watch coming this summer.
