Samsung rolled out no less than three updates to the Galaxy S21 series in June. The latest of those was the most important one as it fixed some major issues with the camera app. This update is now hitting the Galaxy S21 units on T-Mobile (and Sprint, of course).

Samsung‘s latest Galaxy flagships have been having a major issue with the Camera app lately. Many users have reported experiencing crazy stutter and lag with the camera. Reports suggest zooming in/out or switching the lenses would take an enormous amount of time. Such lags mean users were missing out on that perfect moment they wanted to capture. Not to mention, it ruined the user experience as well.

The Korean firm eventually fixed these issues with some memory and engine optimizations for several camera features. The fixes rolled out with a new update for the Galaxy S21 lineup midway through last month (third of the month).

As usual, international versions of the phones were the first to pick up the new update. However, Samsung quickly brought it stateside as well. Galaxy S21 phones on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile networks received the update a couple of weeks back, followed by the carrier-locked Verizon and AT&T units. It’s now available on T-Mobile as well (via).

Though there’s no mention of it in the changelog, the latest update for the Galaxy S21 series also adds a new feature that enables the phones to read QR codes in photos stored in the gallery. Some additional optimizations should also help with the overheating issues if any.

The update also bundles the June 2021 Android security patch

The new update for the Galaxy S21 series on T-Mobile’s network comes with firmware version G99xUSQU4AUF5. The OTA ( over the air) download file weighs just over 400MB. It also bundles the June 2021 Android security patch. That’s not the latest available but not too old either.

That said, many Samsung smartphones and tablets have already received the July update. But, since carrier-locked devices in the US usually get the latest updates a little late than the unlocked international versions, it’s not anything to worry about. This month’s security patch should also reach the Galaxy S21 units on T-Mobile and other networks in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, if you’re using a Galaxy S21 phone on T-Mobile, you should now be able to download the new update if you haven’t already. Simply open the Settings app, scroll down to the Software update menu, and tap Download and install. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it on the next screen.
