Razer today is announcing its 2nd Gen version of the Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds, which come powered by Razer Chroma RGB lighting and a handful of other improvements.

This is the brand’s fourth pair of true wireless earbuds. Preceded by the Hammerhead True Wireless X this year (these weren’t available in the US), the Hammerhead True Wireless Pro in 2020, and the original pair back in 2019. Razer has learned a few things over the last few iterations. One, that the addition of Chroma really kicks things up a notch. Because it makes the earbuds feel more like a Razer product.

More importantly though, that good audio quality and battery life are paramount. And that it can achieve both good audio quality and better battery life without having to sacrifice such an iconic Razer feature like its RGB lighting. Razer is selling these beginning today at $129.

Razer’s Hammerhead True Wireless 2nd Gen come with more than just Chroma

Chroma is one of the focal points of Razer’s newest earbuds. And that will certainly go a long way to entice the loyal fanbase. But Chroma isn’t the only big feature worth getting these for. They also come with Active Noise Cancellation and a new in-ear design for added comfort and better sound.

Now this isn’t the Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation that’s in the Pro model. Instead, Razer is using what’s called Feed Forward ANC. This uses a single microphone on the outside of the earpiece to filter unwanted noise. Whereas the Hybrid ANC in the Pros has mics both on the outside and the inside for a more complete approach.

The earbuds also have the ultra-low latency 60ms gaming mode. Meaning a more synchronized gaming experience for you. In our testing of this feature so far, it didn’t work as well as it did on the Pro model. Cutting out for a second every so often. But for the most part, it works great.

They’ll last for up to 6.5 hours without the case

Technically, the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless 2nd Gen will last for up to 32.5 hours. But that’s with the case, and that’s with both the ANC and Chroma lighting disabled.

A more accurate rating of the battery life if you wanted to use all the bells and whistles is about 4 hours. Or, 16+ if you include the extra charges from the case. If you have the Chroma lighting on but ANC off, then that dumps battery life down to about 5.5 hours without the case. And about 4.5 hours if the Chroma lighting is off but the ANC is on.

So overall the battery life isn’t all that bad considering the flashy Chroma RGB. And even with both the Chroma and the ANC enabled, the battery life is still better than the original Hammerhead True Wireless from 2019. Which sat at around 3.5 hours. You can pick up the Hammerhead True Wireless 2nd Gen starting from today directly through Razer, and eventually through retail partners like Amazon.
