The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro arrived to me on Friday, and I’ve used it for a couple of days at this point. The full review will have to wait a bit, until I properly test it, but I’m ready to share some initial impressions on the device.
The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro hands-on – great-looking smartwatch
First and foremost, this is a stunning-looking smartwatch. I do believe Amazfit nailed it with the design. The brushed metal (aluminum) is used for the frame here, and it’s not shiny, which is great. Amazfit opted for a matte finish, and it looks great in images, and even better in person.
Two versions are available, Brown Leather and Infinite Black units. The former arrived my way, and I’m not sorry at all. The combination of silver metal and brown leather just works for fancy smartwatches, and I simply love it.
There is a rotating crown on the right
Amazfit opted to include two buttons on the right side of this watch, one of which doubles as a rotating crown. The implementation is really good, though I wish the rotating crown was a bit sturdier. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t feel like it’s gonna fall off or anything, but I would appreciate a bit more physical feedback when I’m rotating it.
The buttons are really clicky, and there’s really no problem regarding that. The display is flat, but the glass on top of it is slightly curved, and feels great to run your fingers across. This is an excellent implementation.
The leather strap feels really nice as well, and the buckle matches the color of the watch’s frame. You can use pretty much any other strap if you don’t like this one, as the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro supports standard 22mm straps. Just make sure you get the right size, and you’re good.
The display is large, colorful, and gets really bright when needed
The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro uses a 1.45-inch AMOLED display, and it’s really great. This panel gets really bright, up to 1,000 nits, which is plenty. It’s also quite large, larger than most other smartwatch display out there. Despite that, however, the watch is not too big, it feels just the right size on my wrist.
The watch is also really comfortable to wear. I haven’t really used it for long, only a couple of days, but I don’t have a single complaint when it comes to comfort. It’s not exactly heavy either, which is great.
Now, since Friday, around 1 PM, the battery dropped around 20-percent. I’ve also been using the watch quite a bit in that time, so the battery life is more than promising on the GTR 3 Pro.
Amazfit promises around 12 days of battery life with typical usage, and around 6 with heavy usage, and I can see that happening, to be quite honest. We’ll have to wait for the full review to find out, though.
Wireless charging is not included, unfortunately
I was kind of disappointed wireless charging wasn’t included here. On the positive note, though, the charging cradle is really small, which is nice, and wireless charging would probably add some thickness to the watch, so… to each its own.
The last thing I’d like to mention is the software. The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro comes with brand new software from the company, Zepp OS, and it’s really promising. I didn’t expect I’d like this software that much, but I do, at least for the time being.
The notifications are handled properly, and they’re instantaneous. The music control works great, while there are quite a few options that you can delve into. The software UI layout on the watch is also really good, and exactly what you’d expect.
This watch does have a ton of fitness-related features that need to be tested, and so much more than that. All that will have to wait for the review, but I can say the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro surprised me. I did not expect I’d like this thing that much, to be quite honest.
