Using Google Assistant for typing has never been easier, thanks to a new integration with Gboard on the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. That’s because now that the search giant has officially launched the new devices, a plethora of new features is being unveiled. And the above-mentioned feature will ensure that voice typing is even better than it’s ever been.

What does Assistant Voice Typing mean for Pixel 6 users in Gboard?

Now, integration between Google Assistant voice typing and Gboard goes much further than might be presumed at first glance with the Pixel 6 series. And that starts right from the first time users go to use the new feature. Not least of all because they no longer need to tap on the microphone icon to get started. Or to double-tap it to keep dictation open until it’s manually halted — either via voice command, closing the keyboard, or tapping the icon.

Instead, users simply need to say “Hey Google” and then “Type” and the keyboard will go into dictation mode.

From there, users won’t only be able to say “Send” to submit the message either. They can also use the “Clear” command to remove a sentence or “Clear all” to completely clear a text field. “Delete,” on the other hand will clear the last word typed while users can also use “Delete” to clear a specific word or “undo” to undo the last voice action.

Additionally, voice can be utilized to navigate through the text field via commands such as “Next” and “Previous.” While other commands can be used to add a Cc, subject, or recipient.

Adding some icing to that already great cake, conversely, users can add the word “emoji” to some words for adding an emoji instead of a word.

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro pre-orders are already open now if you want the new functionality

For the time being, this feature appears to be limited to the new Pixel 6 series smartphones. It may eventually make its way to older Pixels too but that hasn’t been confirmed just yet. The new phones themselves are already up for pre-order too. With pricing starting out at $599 for the Google Pixel 6 and $899 for the Google Pixel 6 Pro, respectively.
