The Pixel 6 duo of phones just launched today, and Google showcased them at a live event. During the event, Google also introduced a new partnership it made with Snapchat. There’s a new feature called “Quick Tap To Snap,” (via Business Wire) which allows Pixel 6 users to quickly pull up a Snapchat camera from the lockscreen.

Quick Tap To Snap is exclusive to Pixel 6 users

The point of Quick Tap To Snap is to access Snapchat right away without having to unlock the phone; you don’t even have to turn the phone on! All you have to do is tap on the back of the actual phone, and the Snapchat camera will open up right away.

You won’t be launching into the full Snapchat app when you do this; a light version of the camera app will open up. It’ll give you enough functionality to take a picture or video, but if you want to do anything with it, you’ll need to unlock the phone.

Google will add its own flavor to this feature as well

This partnership involves more than just Snapchat’s influence. Along with the quick camera, Google will be unveiling its own exclusive AR features for Pixel users. Along with that, Snapchat will also use the ultrawide camera on the Pixel 6 to take “ultrawide selfies.”

What’s, perhaps, a bit more exciting is that Google is lending its translation functionality to Snapchat. Users will be able to translate their conversations in real-time. This feature seems to still be in production, as you have just over 10 languages at the moment.

Quick Tap To Snap marks the first time that Snapchat launched a version of its camera to be used on the lock screen. This is undoubtedly an attempt to appeal to content creators who are always on the platform.

Yes, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are here!

The Pixel 6 duo marks a turning point for the Pixel line of phones. Firstly, Google finally put an under-display fingerprint scanner in one of its devices, as both models have one. The most interesting spec about these phones is the SoC. The company manufactured its own chip called the Tensor chip. We’re all eager to see how this chip competes with the other chips on the market.

These phones are out now, and you can order them from Google or third-party vendors. The base model costs just $599, and the pro model costs $899. If you order one, it’ll start shipping on October 28th in the US (November 1st for Europe) so get them while you can!
