The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro come without an LED notification light, as the vast majority of smartphones do these days. Well, there is an app on the Play Store that can create one for you, kind of.
You can create an LED notification light on your Pixel 6 thanks to this app
That app’s name is aodNotify, and it’s currently in an Early Access program. We knew about it for quite some time now, as it’s not exactly brand new, while Android Police reported that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are supported now.
Not many phones ship out with an LED notification light. The ASUS ZenFone 8 is an exception when it comes to high-end phones. Other than that handset, I don’t really remember any recent flagship that offered it.
Having an LED notification light is quite useful, needless to say. That small light that is pulsing when you have unread notifications. The best part about it was that you could customize its color, and for which apps will it pulsate, at least on most devices.
There are quite a few options included inside the app
Well, this app can’t really create a physical LED notification light on the Pixel 6. It can take advantage of that AMOLED display, though. It can create a classic-looking LED notification light somewhere on the display, or create one around the camera cutout. Alternatively, it can only light up the sides when you have unread notifications.
You have quite a few options to choose from here. Why did I mention an AMOLED display here? Well, unlike LCD panels, AMOLED displays can fire up only some pixels on the display, and thus consume way less battery for features like these.
When you receive a notification, aodNotify will only fire up some Pixels, not your entire display. Do note that this app is currently in an Early Access program, so there may be some bugs to deal with.
The app does allow you to set for which apps you want to see this notification, and also change the color of it for different apps and contacts. There are way more options on offer here, so if you’re interested, the app is linked below.
