Galaxy S22, S22+ To Feature An Unchanged Camera Design

Samsung usually keeps the rear camera design consistent across its latest flagship models. The Galaxy S21 series, for example, had the Contour Cut Camera on all three models, a design that blends the camera housing seamlessly with the phone’s frame. But things might change a bit with the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. The vanilla Galaxy S22 and S22+ may sport a different camera island than the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

We already know what the Galaxy S22 Ultra would look like from the back. Samsung has settled on a raindrop camera design without any camera bump. Each sensor individually protrudes out of the back panel. We have seen this rear camera design on a few Samsung mid-rangers in the past and the company is now seemingly porting it over to flagships for good.

But it appears only the highest-end Galaxy S22 model will employ this design. Dutch publication LetsGoDigital claims that the two lower-end models, i.e. the Galaxy S22 and S22+, will feature an identical design as the Galaxy S21 series. This means these two phones will have a camera bump, which will blend seamlessly with their frame.

Galaxy S22 renders reveal a similar design as its predecessor

The new report also contains renders of the Galaxy S22 5G and we can immediately notice the similarity with its predecessor (the Plus model will also feature an identical camera bump). But the design now looks more refined and polished. The renders also reflect recent rumors that the Galaxy S22 series will have a flat front and back.

Samsung has revised the rear camera design of its flagships with every new series. So it keeping things largely unchanged between the Galaxy S21/S21+ and Galaxy S22/S22+ next year comes as a surprise. Time will tell whether it will have any effect on sales.

This information reportedly comes from a former Samsung employee. So it could be quite accurate. That said, we are still a few months away from the Galaxy S22 launch. Samsung is said to be planning a February launch for its upcoming flagships. So a lot could change by then. We saw multiple rear camera designs for the Galaxy S22 Ultra before the company seemingly finalized one, and arguably the best looking of the lot. So we can’t rule out the possibility of the company exploring other designs for the Galaxy S22 and S22+ as well. We will keep you posted as and when more information emerges.
