It seems like OPPO accidentally revealed the launch date of its first foldable smartphone. The company announced OPPO INNO Day 2021 for December 14 and 15. That happened before the weekend, and we assumed that’s when the phone may launch.

First foldable smartphone from OPPO will almost certainly launch on December 14

Well, the company kind of confirmed it. At the moment, the OPPO INNO Day 2021’s tagline says “Reimagining the future”. Thanks to Google cache, though, as pointed out by Evan Blass, it originally was “Unfold the future”, as you can see below.

OPPO INNO Day 2021 initial tagline

This basically confirms the launch of its foldable smartphone. The company likely changed the tagline to be coy about it, and not confirm it, but the cat is out of the bag. It could technically launch on December 15, but we’re guessing OPPO will do it the first day. This will easily be the most important announcement of the whole event.

OPPO has been working on its first foldable smartphone for quite some time now. Various reports said that the device will launch in December, and it seems like that was accurate.

The company already showed off its, and the world’s, first rollable smartphone a year ago. Even though the phone works, it is not for sale. That was only a concept smartphone.

OPPO actually announced a rollable smartphone before a foldable one

What’s interesting is that OPPO showed off a rollable phone before its foldable one. Well, this foldable device won’t be a concept device, it will become available to purchase for consumers.

We’re not entirely sure what the device will look like, but chances are it will be somewhat similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. A recent rumor did say that the phone will include three displays, though. The main, foldable one, the secondary one on the outside (front), and a tertiary tiny display. That could be a ticker display, or something of the sort, for notifications and whatnot.

The device is tipped to feature an 8-inch QHD+ main display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its secondary display is rumored to be a 6.5-inch one, with fullHD+ resolution, and a 60Hz refresh rate. What’s interesting is that the secondary display will be curved, allegedly.

The Snapdragon 888+ is said to fuel the phone, while OPPO will use LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The company’s self-developed ISP will also be included.
