The Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update has reached Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip 5G in the US. Both unlocked and carrier-locked versions of the folding phone are now receiving the big Android update stateside. The 4G-only variant of the original clamshell foldable has already received the new version in the US as well as in other markets.

The unlocked versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G in the US are picking up the Android 12 update with firmware version F707U1UEU2EUL9. The same update for the carrier-locked versions of the phone is rolling out with firmware version F707USQS2EUL9, SamMobile reports.

According to the new report, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G is receiving the December 2021 Android security patch with this update. That’s disappointing since Samsung has already started rolling out the February security update to its devices. Hopefully, the clamshell foldable will also make the small jump to the latest SMR (security maintenance release) soon.

Besides the security patch, there are plenty of other things to be excited about in this update for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G though. It’s a major Android OS update after all. In addition to all the goodies that are part and parcel of Google’s version of Android 12, we also have a lot of add-ons and tweaks from Samsung. The Korean firm has made minor changes to its One UI user interface and also improved its stock apps. Perhaps there are way too many changes to mention them all here. Galaxy Z Flip 5G is the latest Galaxy to get Android 12 in the US

Samsung began rolling out the Android 12 update in the stable channel in mid-November last year, starting with the Galaxy S21 series. But the pace started to pick up towards the end of December. It has released the new One UI update to a plethora of Galaxy smartphones and tablets since. Most of them have received the big update in the US as well. The remaining few, like the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, are now joining the party too.

So if you’re using the 5G variant of Samsung’s original clamshell foldable, a big software update is coming your way. It will be a massive download over the air (OTA). So you might want to connect your phone to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading to avoid unwanted cellular data charges. It’s also advisable to create a backup of important files before installing such big updates.
