Samsung Has Massively Reduced S Pen Latency On The Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung‘s Galaxy S22 series is not too far away now, with an early February launch all but confirmed. As the devices approach their official unveiling, more information about them is getting leaked online. The latest we have is regarding the Galaxy S22 Ultra‘s S Pen latency. According to Zaryab Khan of YouTube channel XEETECHCARE, the upcoming phone will have an S Pen input delay of 2.8 milliseconds. This is a massive improvement from the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy Note 20 series, both of which offered a 9 milliseconds S Pen latency.

A three times lower S Pen latency on the Galaxy S22 Ultra should make for a more natural writing and drawing experience, much closer to a real-life pen. Galaxy Note series fans would rejoice at this news, after the disappointment of not having a Note phone in 2021. Samsung is also making the Galaxy S22 Ultra closer to a Note phone than an S Series phone design-wise. We have squared corners and a built-in S Pen slot on this phone.

Additionally, the latest leak also reveals that the 108-megapixel primary rear camera of the Galaxy S22 Ultra will boast 12-bit HDR support. This is reportedly a first for a Samsung phone. 12-bit HDR will bring 64 times more vivid colors in photos and videos over 10-bit HDR. You can record 4K videos at 30fps on 12-bit HDR, though there’s a possibility that Samsung will add support for higher frame rates later on.

There’s a lot more to look forward to in the Galaxy S22 series

A 2.8 milliseconds S Pen latency on the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a big leap from Samsung, but that’s not the only thing we are looking forward to in the company’s upcoming flagship series. The devices will bring plenty more to the table. New and improved cameras, the latest flagship processors, an all-glass body, higher peak brightness, and up to 1TB of storage capacity are some of the highlights.

There are also some disappointing downgrades in the pipeline though. Most notably, the Galaxy S Ultra will now boast just 8GB of RAM on the base variant. Samsung is likely doing so for some cost-cutting, as the new phones are said to debut at the same price as their respective predecessors despite all the improvements. That still doesn’t justify the decision to offer lesser RAM on an Ultra phone though.

Nonetheless, Korean media is reporting that the Galaxy S22 series will go official on February 8, 2022. So not long to go before Samsung bares it all. Stay tuned.
