Samsung has released the February 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S20 series in the US. The 2020 Galaxy S flagships join the Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G in receiving the new security update stateside.
As of this writing, the latest SMR (security maintenance release) is rolling out to the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra in the US. The update is available over the air (OTA) to units on Sprint and T-Mobile networks, with firmware version G98xUSQS2EVB3. Other US wireless carriers should soon join the party. The new security patch should also roll out to the unlocked variants of the phones in the coming days.
Since the Galaxy S20 trio recently received the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update, you aren’t getting any new features or enhancements with the latest release. But there are plenty of security fixes here. This month’s SMR for Samsung’s Android devices brings fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities from the Korean brand and Google. Several of those are labeled as “critical” vulnerabilities by the companies.
Samsung releases February security update to the US-bound Galaxy S20 trio
Samsung began rolling out the February security patch to its Android devices towards the end of January. The Galaxy Note 20 series received it first. Soon after, the Galaxy S20 series joined the party as well. Three weeks or so after the international versions, the US-bound units of the Korean brand’s 2020 Galaxy S flagship trio are now receiving the new security update.
During this time, Samsung seeded the latest SMR to dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S10 series, and many more. As mentioned earlier, some of them have already received the update in the US while some others are still waiting. You can expect the company to release the new update to more eligible devices in the coming days.
If you’re using any of the above-mentioned Samsung smartphones, you should soon be receiving the February security update if you haven’t already. As far as installing the update is concerned, you probably already know the drill. All you have to do is navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install to download the new software package. If you don’t bother doing all this, wait for a notification for the OTA update and follow the on-screen instructions.
