Samsung introduced an upgraded version of Object Eraser with the recently launched Galaxy S22 lineup, allowing users to remove shadows and reflections from their photos. It was widely believed that these features would be exclusive to the newly unveiled flagship lineup, at least temporarily. But it doesn’t appear to be the case as per a new report.
As per a report by Android Police, the revamped version of Object Eraser is making its way to older Galaxy devices in the form of an update to the Photo Editor app. Users can find the update on Galaxy Store. You will also need to follow a few steps to enable reflections and shadows on your Galaxy phone. It’s worth noting that these features are still in beta.
Head over to Samsung Gallery and open the picture you want to edit. Tap the pencil icon to open the editing tools. From here, hit the three-dot menu in the bottom right corner and select Labs. You should now be able to find dedicated toggles for Shadow and Reflection erasers. Now go back to the editing window, tap the three-dot menu, and select Object Eraser.
The feature should work on any One UI 4 smartphone, though performance may vary depending on the hardware
Assuming you followed the above steps in order, the features should appear within the image editor options. To ensure these features work, users are also recommended to update the Object Eraser plugin.
The folks at Android Police managed to enable these camera tweaks on the Galaxy S21+ (Exynos 2100) with One UI 4. It’s currently unclear if these new camera features can work with One UI 3, but we don’t see why not. The performance of the Object Eraser would depend on the hardware you own. Simply put, even if you manage to get the feature working on a mid-range Galaxy device, it won’t work as smoothly as it would on a flagship like the Galaxy S22, or even the Galaxy S21.
Speaking of mid-range Galaxy devices, the company is likely to launch a flurry of smartphones, namely the Galaxy A23, A33, A53 & A73. A recent leak spilled the beans on its hardware credentials, while also revealing that it could launch over the next few months. There’s no precise release timeline yet, though we expect to learn more about it over the next few weeks.
