Google Chat To Pause Mobile Notifications While On Desktop

Getting notifications from Google Chat is sorta important. However, if you use the service for both mobile and desktop platforms, it can be pretty annoying getting repeat notifications. After this feature dropped for Gmail (via Android Police), Google Chat will pause mobile notifications when you’re using the service on the desktop.

Repeat notifications can really be a pain in the neck. This is bad for people who use multiple devices or people who use the same service on mobile and desktop. You’ll have a conversation on the computer, only to have to clear it from your phone later.

Google Chat will pause mobile notifications while you’re on desktop

This is why it’s a good idea that Google added this feature. When you access the Google Chat site on your computer, you’ll see a popup on the bottom of the screen. It will read “Pause mobile notifications while you’re using this device”. On the popup, you’ll have the ability to accept or decline it.

If you click “Allow” when you’re using Google Chat on a computer, it will communicate that to your phone, and that will pause the notifications. If you really hate repeat notifications, then this should be a useful feature.

You’ll just need to remember to exit the window or tab when you’re done. A lot of the time, people tend to leave browser tabs open then they leave. If that tab stays open, then the notifications will remain paused on your mobile device.

If you don’t see the notification on your display, then you’ll need to wait a bit. A lot of the time, it takes a little bit for a change to make it to everyone.

In other Google Messaging News: Google finally dropped Hangouts from the Google Play Store

Google hasn’t had any luck with delivering a consistent messaging platform. Other services like Google Allo and Google Plus  Huddle are all a thing of the past. One service that’s pretty much been on life-support is Google Hangouts. People were waiting for Google to officially kill off the service.

That day may have come, as Google dropped the official Hangouts app from the Play Store. Those who have the app already installed on their device can still access the app and send messages. When they open up the app, they’ll get a splash screen prompting them to migrate to Google Chat.
