Samsung has started rolling out the April 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S20 FE 5G and Galaxy A51. The rollout for both phones has begun in Europe. The update should reach other territories over the next few days or weeks.

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G is receiving the new security update in most European countries, including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and the UK. The updated firmware version for this phone is G781BXXU4FVC4. The device could be getting some feature enhancements with this update.

The April security update has already rolled out to the LTE model of the Galaxy S20 FE. It had a limited release in some Asian markets and Australia. But the 5G model was launched globally. Users outside of Europe should also be able to download this month’s SMR (security maintenance release) soon.

As for the Galaxy A51, the initial rollout only covers the LTE variant with model number SM-A515F. This rollout is limited to users in Russia and comes with firmware version A515FXXU5FVD2. However, it shouldn’t be long before Samsung releases the update to the mid-ranger in other regions. The Galaxy A51 5G should also soon join the party.

The latest update for the Galaxy A51 (LTE) may contain more than just the security fixes for this month. Unfortunately, Samsung’s update tracker for the phone in Russia has yet to reflect the new release. We should get a confirmation once the update reaches more markets. As far as the content of the latest SMR is concerned, the Korean company recently revealed that the new security update patches more than 80 vulnerabilities. Some of them were critical ones, including the Dirty Pipe vulnerability that affected the Galaxy S22 series.

Samsung rolls out the April security update to more Galaxy devices

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G and Galaxy A51 (LTE) join an ever-growing list of Galaxy devices that have received Samsung’s April security update. The rollout began in late March with the Galaxy S22 devices picking up the new update first. But the Korean brand has picked up pace this week. Yesterday, we saw the company release the update to half a dozen new models, while simultaneously expanding the availability for previously updated devices to more regions. You can expect other eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets to also receive the April update in the coming days and weeks. We will keep you posted.
