Samsung last week released a massive software update to the Galaxy S22 series. The rollout began in the company’s homeland South Korea and gradually expanded to some European countries. The update is now available widely across several other parts of the world, including Asia and Africa. Both Exynos and Snapdragon variants of the phones are receiving the new software package. It should soon reach the US market too.

The latest update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with the April 2022 Android security patch. The new firmware version for the international versions of the phones is S90**XXU1AVCJ while that for the Korean versions is S90*NKSU1AVCK. Neither Google nor Samsung has detailed the content of this month’s SMR (security maintenance release) yet.

However, it’s not the new security patch that we are more interested in. As said earlier, it’s a massive update with the OTA (over the air) package weighing almost 1.5GB. The changelog for the international versions of the Galaxy S22 trio doesn’t mention anything else apart from security enhancements. But Samsung’s update tracker for the Korean versions of the new Galaxy flagships reveals a few details.

According to Samsung, the latest update for the Galaxy S22 phones improves the usability of the View Cover. You can now swipe the clock to the right to access a list of notifications. Galaxy S22 users can also now use flash when taking close-up photos. Additionally, Samsung promises performance optimizations while recording UHD videos in low-memory situations.

It’s unclear if all these changes are rolling out to the international versions of the Galaxy S22 trio as well. But considering the huge OTA download size, the devices are surely getting more than just a new security patch and bug fixes.

Speaking of bug fixes, the Galaxy S22 series has had plenty of issues. Samsung has fixed some of those with previous updates but a few still exist. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is having a GPS issue while many users have reported audio-video sync issues on all three models. Hopefully, the company will get those fixed quickly.
