Huawei will announce its next-gen foldable smartphone on April 28. Its name will be the Huawei Mate Xs 2, and it may be quite expensive. That is, at least, what a new report is saying.

The Huawei Mate Xs will be quite expensive, it seems

This information comes from Ross Young, a well-known display analyst. He’s usually spot on when it comes to his information, so do note that. He did note that the Mate Xs 2 may cost around $2,500.

Needless to say, that’s a truly high price tag. The Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung’s flagship foldables, starts at $1,799. That’s just for your reference. Do note that the Mate Xs 2 won’t be available in the US, though.

This $2,500 price tag is equivalent for the Chinese smartphone market. That’s where this foldable is expected to launch first. It will likely arrive to more markets, but not the US. Huawei is still under the US ban, and cannot use Google services.

The device won’t include an LTPO panel, but it will offer a 120Hz refresh rate

In any case, Ross Young had more to say. He said that the Mate Xs 2 will include an upgraded display compared to the Huawei Mate Xs. It will include a 120Hz display, but that panel won’t be an LTPO panel, we’re still looking at an LTPS display. In other words, the panel won’t offer an adaptive refresh rate.

For those of you who are out of the loop, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 will feature an outwards-folding display. That’s the same approach Huawei took with the Mate X and Xs.

That means that a part of its display will be constantly exposed. When folded, a large chunk of its display will be placed at the bottom, and you’ll lay your phone on a table that way. That really doesn’t sound like the best choice, but there you go.

This device will launch on April 28 in China, but it’s expected to arrive to more markets later on.
