As per a new report, Samsung won’t release the Classic variant of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5. The company will reportedly release the standard model and a ‘Pro’ variant of its upcoming wearable instead.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Watch 5 will be available in two sizes. However, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will only sell in one size. It’s unclear whether Samsung will retain the iconic rotatable bezel of the Galaxy Watch series, but the screen should be circular. Fans can expect the Galaxy Watch 5 series to include an OLED screen, heart-rate monitor, body composition sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, GPS, etc.

The existence of a Pro variant of the Galaxy Watch 5 is common knowledge based on the rumors. But this is the first we’re hearing of the Classic model being scrapped. So this new revelation has certainly come as a surprise, given that the Classic variant has been around since the days of Samsung Gear.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series could debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 this year

A report from a few weeks ago revealed that the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro could feature a massive 572 mAh battery underneath. This seems logical considering widespread criticism of the Galaxy Watch 4’s subpar battery performance.

The two upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 wearables should also feature a newer version of One UI Watch based on Google’s Wear OS 3. As of right now, the Galaxy Watch 4 series is the only wearable that runs on Wear OS 3. But more Wear OS smartwatches are expected to get it later this year.

Google is reportedly working on a Wear OS 3.1 device codenamed Pixel Rohan. So the market could finally get more than just one Wear OS 3 smartwatch. This wearable may break cover during Google I/O next month, although we’re not holding our breath. The Android smartwatch market could really benefit from more competitive options, particularly from a brand like Google.

There’s still some mystery about the chipset powering the new Galaxy Watch 5 duo. But it shouldn’t remain a secret for long. Samsung could reveal the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Watch 5 Pro in August this year. The launch event may also mark the arrival of the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4, much like in 2021.
