Withings is finally ready to release its ScanWatch Horizon hybrid smartwatch in the US. Launched back in September 2021, the wearable will be available to purchase stateside from May 17th (via). The French brand has set the device’s price at $500. The watch comes in green and blue dial color options.

Withings ScanWatch Horizon specifications and features

The ScanWatch Horizon arrives as the successor to Withings’ original ScanWath. The company touts it as a designer smartwatch for divers. With a 10ATM water rating, the watch can certainly withstand a lot of underwater pressure (up to 100 meters of 328ft). It also boasts an oximeter to monitor the oxygen saturation of the blood.

This device features an ECG (electrocardiogram) health sensor to check your heart’s rhythm and electrical activity, and detect any abnormal heart conditions early. Other health features include heart rate monitor and sleep tracking. The watch cans also seamlessly track various other physical activities such as running and walking. It has GPS built-in to track your movements.

The companion smartphone app, which is available for both iOS and Android platforms, gives you a detailed view of your health data. The hybrid smartwatch also includes a small digital screen sub-dial that lets you see these data as well as notifications from your phone. The pressable digital crown lets you navigate through various features on the watch. As for the battery life, Withings claims the device can run for up to 30 days on a single charge.

Packing all these smart features, the Withings ScanWatch Horizon is quite stylish too. It sports a traditional steel body with a rotating bezel and a scratch-resistant sapphire glass. The hybrid smartwatch certainly has the look of a luxurious conventional timepiece. Withings offers five years of warranty with the device.

FDA clearance delayed its US release

The Withings ScanWatch Horizon went on sale in some European countries, including Germany, France, and the UK, immediately after launch in September 2021. But its US release was delayed because the company hadn’t obtained the FDA approval for its ECG sensor. It hoped to get the approval before the end of 2021, targeting an early 2022 release. But the wait turned out to be a lot longer.

If you remember, the original Withings ScanWatch also arrived in the US a lot later than Europe. Announced at the CES in January 2020, the device arrived stateside in November 2021. The same FDA clearance for the ECG sensor held back its release. It is currently selling for $280.
