While Pixel 6 customers can choose from several third-party cases, most prefer the first-party case sold by Google. However, multiple customers are now claiming that Google’s transparent cases are starting to lose their sheen.
Multiple users have voiced their displeasure about the first-party Pixel 6 cases
A user on Reddit said the Pixel 6 case is yellowing and not fitting the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Some claim the transparent case started showing deterioration a few months after they started using it, while others claim it reached that stage in only two or three weeks (via The Verge).
In a few other cases, the cases reportedly began changing their shape near the buttons or the bottom of the phone. This renders the case useless if you accidentally drop your phone.
It’s worth noting that there are still a lot of positive reviews for the Pixel 6 cases. But the negative reviews are beginning to pile up, and Google will likely take notice. The company hasn’t commented on the new revelations as of yet.
The author of the original Reddit post issued a clarification after this story started gaining traction. “In the end, Amazon ended up sending me a replacement as an ‘exception’, however this does not fix the environmental issue. I will ship back to Amazon the old case which they will trash. I will have to trash the new case in 6 months.”
Many users admit that they expected their case to deteriorate at some point, but not too early in its life. To make matters worse, these cases come directly from Google, so there’s a general expectation that it would fare better than third-party cases.
We recommend contacting Google if you’re facing similar issues with your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro cases. While the company is not in a position to do much about it, you may at least get an apology or even a replacement if you’re lucky.
Customers can choose from a wide range of third-party Pixel 6 cases
A recall seems unlikely given that these cases don’t pose any physical danger to the users. It’s unclear if the revelation about the Pixel 6 cases will also impact accessories meant for the upcoming Pixel 6a. Google could be inclined to make some last-minute adjustments to its accessories before the July release.
For now, the only viable solution is to look for third-party Pixel 6 cases. There are a ton of them to choose from, and they cost pretty much the same as Google’s offerings or even cheaper in some instances.
