Google Play Store has started testing developer-provided promo texts for apps. The feature allows users to see more details about an app without opening a listing.
Google is constantly trying to improve the user’s experience on the Play Store. Last year, Google rolled out a major navigation and settings redesign to the Play Store and ditched the famous hamburger menu. Google is now rolling out a tweak to the apps with developer-provided promo texts.
According to 9to5Google, the tweak is not yet widely available and is just activated for some users. The icons are now smaller, and a developer-provided promo text appears below each app to explain its functions.
The changes are visible on the “Based on your recent activity” and “Recommended for you” cards/shelf. Though, the Games or Books tabs remained unchanged. For the Movies & TV tap, Google plans to get rid of it and make users use the Google TV app to download the relevant content.
The new Google Play Store design is not yet available to all users
You can check your Google Play Store app for availability. The developer-provided promo texts might help users find their apps quickly and bring a better browsing experience. However, you might not be able to see the new tweak soon, and it might take some time.
In recent months, Google Play Store has gone through some changes to improve the user experience or enhance privacy. For example, Google finally dropped the Hangouts app from the Play Store. Maybe Google wants to prepare Hangouts to send it to the cemetery of its skilled services.
But one of the most impressive new features of Google Play is removing the apps that scan the phone for other installed apps. This privacy-driven feature prevents sneaky apps from seeing what applications you are using.
Overseeing the installed apps will be only possible for app launchers or backup tools. If an application wants to know what other apps are installed on the phone, it must obtain certain permissions from Google.
