Samsung has released the May 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy Note 20 series in the US. The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are both picking up the latest security update stateside. The international versions of the phones should also receive the update in the coming days.

As of this writing, the May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Note 20 duo in the US is rolling out to the unlocked variants. The update is available on all major wireless networks with firmware version N98*U1UES2FVD6. The carrier-locked variants of the phones should also soon pick up the new security patch.

The Galaxy Note 20 series joins the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Tab S8 series, Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in receiving the May security patch. Of course, the update for these devices has yet to reach everyone globally. But it’s only a matter of time now. Other eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets will also receive the new security update in the coming weeks. We will keep you posted.

Samsung has published the content of the May security patch

Samsung began rolling out the May security update to its devices early last week. The new SMR has already reached a dozen Galaxy smartphone and tablet models across various parts of the world. The company has now detailed the content of this month’s patch.

According to Samsung’s newly updated security bulletin, the latest SMR for Galaxy devices contains over Android OS 30 patches from Google. These include fixes for as many as seven critical vulnerabilities.

Additionally, the Korean brand has included fixes for 18 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items as well. These are security flaws that only affect the company’s Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Among the SVEs patched are a couple of high-risk vulnerabilities that allowed an attacker to launch arbitrary activity with system privilege or uninstall arbitrary packages without permission.

All of these vulnerability fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in the US. If you’re using either of the S Pen wielding flagships, be on the lookout for a notification about the OTA (over the air) rollout in the coming days. You can also manually check for the update on your phone though. Simply open the Settings app, navigate to the Software update menu, and tap on Download and install. If an OTA update is available, you will be prompted to download it.
