At its annual 5G Summit this week, Qualcomm announced its newest 5G modem, the Snapdragon X70. This builds on the fifth-generation 5G modem-RF System that it announced at MWC back in February. Using the power of AI for breakthrough 5G performance with 10 Gigabit 5G downloads. It also offers incredible upload speeds, low latency, coverage and power efficiency.

Because of this, the Snapdragon X70 modem offers plenty of flexibility for 5G operators to maximize spectrum resources for the best possible 5G experience.

It also includes advanced capabilities including the Qualcomm 5G AI Suite, Qualcomm 5G Ultra-Low Latency Suite, Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 3, uplink carrier aggregation, standalone mmWave and 4X sub-6 carrier aggregation to achieve unmatched 5G performance.

What’s new in the Snapdragon X70?

There’s plenty new in this new 5G modem from Qualcomm. That includes Smart Transmit 3.0 technology. Basically, this is an upgraded system-level feature that is licensed by Qualcomm Technology and now extends support to WiFi and Bluetooth transmit power management. This will enable real-time averaging of transmit power across the 2G-5G, mmWave, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios. This will help deliver superior radio performance.

It also has the world’s first standalone mmWave connection, with peak speeds hitting over 8Gbps. Remember with peak speeds, those are speeds you’ll likely never see. As the conditions need to be perfect to hit those numbers.  “Snapdragon X70 gives operators the ability to deliver extreme 5G capacity, multi-gigabit data speeds, and new use cases across devices from smartphones to laptops, fixed wireless access equipment, industrial machines and more.” said Durga Malladi, the senior vice president and general manager, Cellular Modems and Infrastructure at Qualcomm Technologies.

Qualcomm is now sampling the Snapdragon X70 to its customers. Qualcomm says that it expects to see devices launch with the Snapdragon X70 inside in late 2022. As usual, Qualcomm has not announced which customers will be using the Snapdragon X70, that is typically saved for the announcement of the phone.
