The June 2022 Android security patch is rolling out to Samsung‘s Galaxy S20 series in the US. The new security update is currently available to carrier-locked units of the 2020 Galaxy flagships. The unlocked counterparts should soon start getting the update too. The international versions of these phones have already received this month’s SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

The latest update for the carrier-locked Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra phones in the US come with firmware version G98xUSQU2FVF1. As Samsung revealed earlier this month, the June SMR contains fixes for more than 70 vulnerabilities related to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Samsung accounts, and more. Some of these vulnerabilities only affect Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets, while others affect the whole of Android. The company has labeled a handful of these flaws as critical issues.

The Galaxy S20 trio may also be getting more changes along with the latest SMR. The changelog mentions stability improvements, but Samsung’s changelogs don’t always tell the full story. Don’t expect major new features, though. Android 13 is right on the corner and that should be the next big feature update for Samsung devices.

Nonetheless, if you’re rocking a Galaxy S20 phone in the US, you should be getting the new security update anytime now if you haven’t already. The rollout is currently limited to carrier-locked units, but the unlocked units should soon pick it up as well.

As always, the update will be rolled out in a staged manner and may not be immediately available to everyone. You will receive a notification once the OTA (over the air) rollout hits your Galaxy S20 unit. You can also manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > Software update and tapping Download and install.

The Galaxy S20 series gets the June update in the US

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 series in early 2020 with Android 10 on board. Over the past couple of years, the phones have picked up Android 11 and Android 12 updates. They also receive monthly security updates. The company started rolling out the June SMR to the devices earlier this month. The update has now reached the US units too.

Considering Samsung’s super-fast speed with security updates, we wouldn’t be surprised if the company releases the July SMR within the next few days. Flagship models will get the priority, but lower-cost models pick up the updates quite fast too. We will let you know when the Korean behemoth starts rolling out next month’s security update.
