Next month, ESPN+ prices will go up to $9.99 per month, or $99.99 per year. That’s up $3 from its current $6.99/month price (or $69.99/year). That’s a huge price jump, from $6.99, almost 43%. And just last year it was still $4.99 per month. Which making ESPN+ look a bit less appealing than it once did.
The price will change starting on August 23, 2022. And it will affect everyone. No one will be grandfathered into the current $6.99 per month rate plan. Which is something we’re seeing a lot more of these days, as streaming prices continue to soar.
What’s interesting here is that the price of the Disney+ bundle is not changing. Which makes the bundle a lot more appealing now, since it is just $14 per month and includes Disney+ as well as Hulu.
Why is ESPN+ raising prices?
You might be wondering why ESPN+ is raising its price, and by so much. Well, a lot of sports rights have come up for renewal recently, and these streaming companies are spending a ton on them. Bringing the NHL, PGA Tour and more to ESPN+ costs quite a bit of cash, and that in turn, gets passed onto the subscriber. It is rather unfortunate, but that’s how these things work.
Streaming is getting more and more expensive, and that’s largely thanks to the increased competition. Streaming Sports has always been pretty pricey, especially local sports. ESPN+ is actually still pretty competitive. Considering DAZN is $19.99 per month and just has boxing. Or Bally Sports Plus which is also $19.99 per month and is only available in some markets, with just a handful of teams (or less). Meanwhile, ESPN+ is half that price, with a more variety of content available.
It’ll be interesting to see if people stick with ESPN+ or dump it. But the way to keep it would be with the Disney+ bundle, since the three services separately would cost you about $25.
