Samsung has released the July 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. They join dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy S20 FE, in receiving this month’s security update.

As of this writing, the July SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra is rolling out in a couple of European countries — Germany and Switzerland. But it shouldn’t be long before the rollout crosses borders to other markets in the regions before going global. The update is available to both LTE and 5G cellular variants of the phones, though availability may vary. The new firmware version for the Galaxy S20 trio is G98**XXSEFVF4.

The July security update for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, on the other hand, is rolling out to users in Australia. The update comes with firmware version F707BXXU6GVF7. The LTE variant of the original Samsung clamshell foldable, which arrived much before its 5G sibling, has yet to pick up the latest SMR.

Along with a host of vulnerability fixes from Google and Samsung, the new update for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G also contains stability improvements for some functions. But as usual, the Korean firm doesn’t go into detail about them. There are no such goodies for the Galaxy S20 trio, though.

However, the July SMR contains plenty of vulnerability fixes for all of Samsung’s Android-powered devices. According to the company, this month’s release patches 23 Android OS vulnerabilities, including three critical ones. Additionally, you get fixes for 41 other security flaws that only affect the Galaxy devices. These flaws were found in Samsung Knox, Messages, Contacts, App Lock, App Linker, Finder, TelephonyUI, and other core services.

July update reaches Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G

Samsung has been rolling out the July security patch to its devices for more than a week now. Dozens of eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets have picked up the update so far. The company continues to add new models to the party with each passing day. The Galaxy S20 trio and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G are the latest entrants.

If you’re using any of these Samsung devices, you should get a new software update with the July SMR in the coming days. Your phone will notify you once the OTA (over the air) rollout becomes available. You may also manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.
